What does Kiev have in store for Savchenko?

June 10, 2016 -
Translated by J. Arnoldski

According to the Ukrainian political analyst and economic Alexander Dudchak, Kiev wants to achieve several goals by allowing Nadezhda Savchenko to participate in negotiations in Donbass. In Dudchak’s opinion, Petro Poroshenko wants to ruffle the DPR and LPR and make the Ukrainian woman pardoned by the head of the Russian Federation into a “sacred victim.”

“They want to tickle the nerves of Donetsk and Lugansk. Savchenko is far from the best diplomat and can hardly really be the candidate for carrying out such a delicate mission. This mission should be handled by diplomats, not soldiers,” Dudchak told “PolitNavigator.”

“Savchenko herself has stated that she is ready to continue the war. I don’t think the Donetsk and Lugansk’s reactions will be positive. Provocations threatening the life of Savchenko cannot be excluded. Kiev would benefit from her being a victim, an icon. Therefore, they’re sending her to be slaughtered for the purpose of attaining a sacred victim. In recent history there are often such individuals who are not even needed by their own side. They are more effectively used when made into icons that can be printed on flags,” the Ukrainian political scientist summarizes.

Earlier, Alexander Zakharchenko stated that he was read to negotiate with Savchenko if she would obtain the appropriate authority from Kiev. In addition, during his “direct line” with the residents of the Zaporozhye region, the head of the DPR stated that Ukrainian special forces had already planned to liquidate the new deputy of the Verkhovna Rada when Savchenko visited the war zone in Donbass on the night of June 6th.

Ukrainian Authorities Urge to Not Pay Attention to Statements Made by Nadiya Savchenko

Translated by Ollie Richardson for Fort Russ
9th June, 2016

The representative of the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers, George Tuka, urged all to ignore the harsh statements made by the Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Nadiya Savchenko.

"I, honestly, would not attach much importance to Nadiya's statements until she has had at least some time to adapt, to simply have a rest, bask, and become immersed in an environment that has changed in these two years" quoted the Ukrainian TV channel "112" from the words of Tuka.

He also believes that it does not make sense for Savchenko to hold direct talks with representatives of the DNR and the LPR.

"And it seems to me, from a policy perspective, such statements are not entirely correct," he concluded.

Zakharchenko: "We saved Savchenko from an assassination to be blamed on us"

June 8, 2016 -
Translated by J. Arnoldski

DPR authorities informed the Ukrainian deputy Nadezhda Savchenko of the preparation of attempts at her life by Kiev’s special services.

This was stated today by the head of the republic, Alexander Zakharchenko, during a direct line with residents of Zaporozhye.

“When we learned that the special services of Ukraine were preparing an operation to liquidate Savchenko on the demarcation line in order to blame it on us, we held our own operation and brought this information to Savchenko via media,” the leader of Donbass stated.

According to Zakharchenko, the the information handed off apparently got to Savchenko before the organizers’ assassination attempt.

“In any case, I think that Savchenko - when she was in the so-called ATO zone - got no further than Izyum.”

Savchenko meets with Yarosh on frontline, tests "experimental weapon"

June 8, 2016 -
Translated by J. Arnoldski

PolitRussia report:

The former leader of the Ukrainian radical movement “Right Sector”, Dmitry Yarosh, and the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Nadezhda Savchenko, visited Ukrainian security forces deployed in Avdeevka and Shirkonio and participated in the testing of “experimental weapons.”

“Nadezhda Savchenko visited the bases of the 5th and 8th battalions of the UVA (Ukrainian Volunteer Army, earlier called the Volunteer Ukrainian Corpus “Right Sector”) and tested at the training site a unique experimental weapon whose only existing prototype has been produced in the armory of the UVA,” Yarosh wrote on his Facebook page.

In addition, Yarosh and Savchenko discussed further cooperation on issues of defense, the legalization of volunteers, and the release of Ukrainian prisoners.

PolitNavigator report:

On June 6th-7th, the people’s deputies Dmitry Yarosh and Nadezhda Savchenko visited the location of Ukrainian units stationed in Avdeevka and Shirokino.

This has been reported on the “Sector of Truth” website of the “Dia” nationalist movement founded by the former leader of Right Sector, Dmitry Yarosh.

“During the visit, the deputies met with the head of the military-civil administration of Avdeevka, Pavel Malykhin,” the report notes. “Nadezhda Savchenko also visited the bases of the 5th and 8th battalions of the UVA and tested at the training site a unique experimental weapon whose only existing prototype has been produced in the armory of the UVA. Fighters of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army and volunteers of the UAF who talked with Nadezhda Savchenko were interested above all in one thing: ‘When will we go on an offensive?’ Nadezhda’s position is quite careful and reasonable. She believes that it is necessary to do everything so that as little Ukrainian blood will be spilled as possible and so that Ukrainian prisoners can be quickly returned home. She supports the conduct of war by means of sabotage groups. She also hopes for the closing of the border with the Russian Federation and the reduction of the Kremlin’s influence on the territory of the so-called ‘LPR-DPR.”

“Dmitry Yarosh and Nadezhda Savchenko discussed future cooperation on issues of defense, the legalization of volunteers, and the release of Ukrainian prisoners. Only time will tell how fruitful this cooperation will be, but already today it can be said that the two politicians and soldiers found a common language,” the nationalist website emphasizes.

Kiev's loose cannon: Savchenko calls to drop Minsk, hold direct dialogue with DPR/LPR

June 7, 2016 -
Maksim Karpenko, PolitNavigator -
Translated by J. Arnoldski

The newfound people’s deputy and ex-Aidar fighter, Nadezhda Savchenko, has called for direct negotiations between deputies of the Verkhovna Rada and deputies from the DPR and LPR. She stated this live on “Radio Era” while in the area of the ATO as she called in and suggested three steps for “returning Donbass.”

“There are three steps. The first is extending sanctions against Russia, because Russia has not yet realized that it has to leave. The second is opting for direct communication with the DPR and LPR, as they position themselves, without the Minsk Agreements in order to gain access to a direct inner connection without third and fourth parties…Let Mr. Zakharchenko and Plotnitsky be positioned as people’s deputies of the LPR and DPR. As a deputy, I am ready to talk with them. The third step - let’s have some fun together and everything will go over. There is your third step,” Savchenko stated.

Earlier, the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Vadim Rabinovich, claimed that the Nadezhda Savchenko had been pardoned by Russia in the hope that she could be handed off by the Kremlin to start a coup in Ukraine. “Putin has slipped us a coup in Ukraine for the holidays….Some kind of unique woman who maintained a hunger strike for two years and did not lose weight. The level of her oratory skills is unique and I don’t understand where this could have come from,” Rabinovich.

Savchenko Called for an End to the War in Donbass

Translated by Ollie Richardson for Fort Russ
7th June, 2016

The People's Deputy of Ukraine Nadiya Savchenko, convicted in Russia for the murder of journalists and later pardoned, arrived in Slavyansk, where she said that first Ukraine needs to stop the war, then there will be money for social needs.

"First and foremost, to stop the war. There will not be any money in Ukraine for social needs until there is no war. First we need to stop the war, and then raise the whole of Ukraine," she said on the air of Donbass public television. The video was posted on Youtube.

Local residents complained to her with their problems – they do not have enough money for food or for their apartment.

As "Delovoy Slavyansk" wrote, people addressed to her different questions in the area: targeted assistance, "children's" money, continued help for IDPs for work.

"I understand local issues, yet don't know how to solve them. But I will go to the end - if I lose, I lose," said Savchenko.

It was reported earlier that Savchenko on Monday night arrived in the area of the punitive operations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Donbass.

As a reminder, after meeting with relatives of the victims - journalists - in Donbass, at their request the President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed a decree on May 25th on pardoning the Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko, convicted for the murder of VGTRK  journalists in Donbass. Savchenko was brought to Ukraine. On the same day, after being convicted in Ukraine and pardoned by the President Petro Poroshenko, the Russians Aleksandr Yerofeyev and Evgeny Aleksandrov returned to Russia.

Many were surprised by the behavior and statements of Savchenko after her release. At the airport in Kiev, Nadezhda Savchenko got off the plane barefoot, later said that she was already ready to become the President of Ukraine, admitted that her dream is to drink vodka, "overslept" a meeting with her fans, bathed in the fountain on Maidan, and came to Parliament again barefoot.

PR move or provocation? Savchenko visits Donbass "ATO," sits in helicopter

June 6, 2016 -
Translated by J. Arnoldski

The Verkhovna Rada PM from the “Fatherland” faction, Nadezhda Savchenko, who was sentenced in Russia for the murder of Russian journalists in Donbass and then pardoned by the Russian president, has visited the conflict zone in Donbass and sat in the cockpit of a military helicopter. This was reported by RIA Novosti with links to the press center of the military operation.

“The night visit of the Heroine of Ukraine, Nadezhda Savchenko, to the ATO took everyone by surprise. The people’s deputy of Ukraine managed to talk with many soldiers and met with her former colleagues to sit in the cockpit of a military helicopter,” the press-center reports.

Nadezhda Savchenko was sentenced to 22 years in prison in Russia for the murder of All-Russian State Television and Radio Company journalists in Donbass. She directed artillery fire towards the positions of Lugansk militiamen where the Russian journalists were located. Two of them were killed. On May 25th, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on her pardon.

Note from J. Arnoldski: Savchenko's "nighttime" visit to the "ATO" comes on the heels of her confrontation with her party's leader, Yuliya Tymoshenko, and conflicting statements on her position on the Minsk Agreements. At the same time, much talk has filled Ukrainian media of Savchenko possibly entrenching herself for a long political career, something which some analysts have suggested is precisely the disaster which Russia wanted as a result of her exchange. This visit to the ATO should be interpreted as a move by Savchenko directed at her fellow colleagues in the Verkhovna Rada whose precise political implications will become known soon enough. As for now, one can rest assured that Tymoshenko is seething, Poroshenko is snickering, while the Ukrainian "radicals" are debating how they can use this new PR hero for their own plans. Either way, Savchenko's role is still ambiguous and unclear, so this should not be interpreted as any kind of signal from the Kiev regime as to its near-term intentions in Donbass. Savchenko still has a long way to go before her symbolic role evolves into a weighty political one. She has yet to put shoes on and it has yet to be seen if and for who the boot will fit...

Tymoshenko bites back at her party's "barefoot grouch" Savchenko

June 4, 2016 -
Translated by J. Arnoldski

Tymoshenko has had enough of Savchenko’s criticism of her. The whole point is that she thinks that Savchenko has “just snapped” and is doing whatever she pleases. After all, we can all see and hear how disdainful she is towards her fellow deputies. She puts her feet up on the chair, walks barefoot around the parliament, and hurls accusations against politicians, including the president. But Nadezhda’s biggest problem is with the leader of the “Fatherland” party, Tymoshenko. Yulia Vladimirovna Tymoshenko has reciprocated these feelings. At the latest session of the Verkhovna Rada, she expressed to Nadezhda everything she thinks about her.

After all, Tymoshenko understands that a bright leader has appeared on the political arena who is completely uncontrollable and could overshadow her own “idiocy” and arrogance.

Savchenko publicly supported the fulfillment of the Minsk Agreements: “We will do everything we can to ensure that they are fulfilled.”

And now Tymoshenko is categorically against such. She has repeatedly subjected them to harsh criticism. It can be said that a “new violin” has appeared in the Verkhovna Rada which is being played out of tune, but nonetheless loudly, which cannot but scare the ex-prime minister, Tymoshenko, and all of her entourage.

Ukrainian "Titanic" heading straight for iceberg: Kiev analyst points to coming scandals, protests

June 3, 2016 -
Translated by J. Arnoldski

The Ukrainian political analyst and herald of the regime, Vadim Karasev, whose assessments are usually the most optimistic among his colleagues, has suggested that an “iceberg” can already be seen under the Ukrainian “Titanic.”

The “rats” are bankrupting their own banks and are already packing their bags - yet another Khrshchatik Bank scandal. But rather than repeating what Karasev himself has already posted on his Facebook page, here is the full text:

“Savchenko compared the parliament to the Titanic, but I would said that our entire ruling elite is the Titanic. The iceberg of a new wave of protests is getting closer, but almost nothing is being done to change course or stop the state vehicle from being used for enrichment.

In the new future, according to many financiers, we’ll have another high-profile corruption scandal linked to the Khreshchatik bank.

Law enforcement officials, the Fund guaranteeing rival contributions, are rushing to declare that they’ve withdrawn their funds from the bank because the bank doesn’t guarantee securities. But what is really going on? According to bankers, the situation is the opposite - Khreshchatik has left a number of estates, land, and gold, etc. as collateral to the tune of billions. How can all of this be sold to their people for a pittance? Even disregarding the press releases which report that the bank’s loans are fictitious, the collateral is not in any way in danger. And then there will be one too many questions: where did the bank’s property disappear to? We are witnessing such a special information operation now.

Some officials from far from low ranks have fully mastered raider techniques. Including informational ones. These skills will definitely come in handy for “working” with the peaceful protests about which Leshchenko has spoken and about which Savchenko will probably soon enough also speak.”
