Massive Violations of Human Rights and Democratic Freedoms in Ukraine

On June 8th, a press-conference was held on the theme: "Mass violations of human rights and democratic freedoms in Ukraine." It was organized by the Committee of Rescue of Ukraine, the Union of Political Refugees and Political Prisoners in Ukraine, and the human rights organization "Fair Protection".

The participants of the press conference spoke about political persecution in Ukraine, mass arrests and torture of the opposition, SBU secret prisons, and the use of the punitive battalions of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine for beating protesters and creating an atmosphere of terror and intimidation in the country.

During the press conference, a list of political prisoners were presented, including Russian citizens who are in prison.

In the conference hall, a "Komsomolskaya Pravda" journalist spoke to Mykola Azarov - the head of Salvation Committee of Ukraine of Ukraine and ex-Prime Minister of Ukraine; Vladimir Oleinik, a member of the Salvation Committee of Ukraine, and ex-Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine; Larisa Shesler, the Chairwoman of the Union of Political Refugees and Political Prisoners in Ukraine; Daniil Schipkov, head of the human rights organization "Fair protection"; Maksim Sytenkov, head of the Ukrainian public organization "People's Verdict".

In the framework of the event, books by Maksim Grigoriev  -"Ordinary fascism" - and Daniil Schipkov - "Ukraine. Torture and crimes against humanity. Living testimony" - were presented.

In addition, Larisa Shesler presented an open letter addressed to Chancellor Angela Merkel about the persecution and illegal arrests of Ukrainian citizens.
