Ukrainian Expert: New "Economically Justified" Tariffs Will Exceed EU Rates

From September 1st, utility prices in Ukraine will be increased to an "economically feasible" level, which will be higher than some EU countries.

This opinion was expressed by the former Minister of Housing Aleksey Kucherenko at a press-conference to the news agency, GolosUA.

"From September 1st this year, in Ukraine, the price of electricity will already be 15-20% higher than in Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia due to the fact that, attached to the market, is the so-called Rotterdam price for coal," said A. Kucherenko.

According to him, this price is too high, and too expensive electricity "pulls" it and other tariffs up.

As the expert reminded, for example, the cost of cold water consists of 35% of paying bills, while the energy component in the tariffs for water in the EU amounts to only 10-15%.

As a reminder, the tariff for water supply will increase by 30% from 1st August 2016 due to the cost of electricity.
