Translated by J. Arnoldski

PolitRussia report:

The former leader of the Ukrainian radical movement “Right Sector”, Dmitry Yarosh, and the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Nadezhda Savchenko, visited Ukrainian security forces deployed in Avdeevka and Shirkonio and participated in the testing of “experimental weapons.”

“Nadezhda Savchenko visited the bases of the 5th and 8th battalions of the UVA (Ukrainian Volunteer Army, earlier called the Volunteer Ukrainian Corpus “Right Sector”) and tested at the training site a unique experimental weapon whose only existing prototype has been produced in the armory of the UVA,” Yarosh wrote on his Facebook page.

In addition, Yarosh and Savchenko discussed further cooperation on issues of defense, the legalization of volunteers, and the release of Ukrainian prisoners.

PolitNavigator report:

On June 6th-7th, the people’s deputies Dmitry Yarosh and Nadezhda Savchenko visited the location of Ukrainian units stationed in Avdeevka and Shirokino.

This has been reported on the “Sector of Truth” website of the “Dia” nationalist movement founded by the former leader of Right Sector, Dmitry Yarosh.

“During the visit, the deputies met with the head of the military-civil administration of Avdeevka, Pavel Malykhin,” the report notes. “Nadezhda Savchenko also visited the bases of the 5th and 8th battalions of the UVA and tested at the training site a unique experimental weapon whose only existing prototype has been produced in the armory of the UVA. Fighters of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army and volunteers of the UAF who talked with Nadezhda Savchenko were interested above all in one thing: ‘When will we go on an offensive?’ Nadezhda’s position is quite careful and reasonable. She believes that it is necessary to do everything so that as little Ukrainian blood will be spilled as possible and so that Ukrainian prisoners can be quickly returned home. She supports the conduct of war by means of sabotage groups. She also hopes for the closing of the border with the Russian Federation and the reduction of the Kremlin’s influence on the territory of the so-called ‘LPR-DPR.”

“Dmitry Yarosh and Nadezhda Savchenko discussed future cooperation on issues of defense, the legalization of volunteers, and the release of Ukrainian prisoners. Only time will tell how fruitful this cooperation will be, but already today it can be said that the two politicians and soldiers found a common language,” the nationalist website emphasizes.

UAF & "Azov" Looted Civilian Targets in Shirokino – UN Report

Translated by Ollie Richardson for Fort Russ
31st May, 2016

The mission of the Office of the High Commissioner of the UN, in its regular report on the observance of human rights, said that members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and militants of the "Azov" battalion were  engaged in the looting of civilian property in the village of Shirokino, which has long been on the border between the positions of the UAF and the army of the DPR, but in the end were captured by the Ukrainian side.

The report says that the looting of civilian property in the village of Shirokino has led to migration flows and the emergence of civilian refugees.

Paragraph 25 of the report says: "The Ukrainian Armed Forces and armed groups held their ground and brought their weapons and personnel deeper into populated areas, thus violating their obligations under international humanitarian law."

Shirokino, a key locality in the "gray zone" between the government-controlled city of Mariupol and the city of Novoazovsk is under the control of armed groups. The OHCHR (the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights of the UN) has documented the widespread use of civilian buildings and facilities by the Ukrainian military and the "Azov" battalion, as well as the looting of civilian property, which led to migration.
