Rada Threatens Rupture in Diplomatic Relations With Russia After Attack on Embassy

Translated by Ollie Richardson for Fort Russ
12th June, 2016

Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Sergei Sobolev did not rule out the rupture of diplomatic relations between Russia and Ukraine after the incident at the Ukrainian Embassy in Moscow. He stated this to the radio station "Moscow speaking".

During Saturday night, about a hundred young people pelted the Embassy of Ukraine with eggs, and then disappeared. According to a RIA Novosti source in law enforcement, there was no "violent conflict" during the action.

The actions were a response to the events in Odessa, where hundreds of nationalists picketed the building of the Russian Consulate to disrupt the celebration of the Day of Russia.

Sobolev did not consider it and the other incident as something serious, but acknowledged that the cessation of diplomatic relations is "a natural process in such situations."

The Deputy did not specify whether he would continue his work at the Ukrainian Embassy in Moscow after the incident, noting that such decisions should be made by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.

Rada Deputy Proposes to Take Russians Hostage

Translated by Ollie Richardson for Fort Russ
12th June, 2016

Deputy of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Semen Semenchenko proposed to take citizens of Russia hostage, and then exchange them for detained Ukrainians.

"How to release them? It's simple. The other side is taken prisoner, or rather as hostages, because Russian officers and mercenaries do not have the status of prisoners of war. I think governors know that we have an unofficial mass of groups in the border zone. These people are armed in the "Voentorg", they do not have any relation to our side. And each of our hostages will be exchanged with them," Semenchenko declared on the air of "Schuster Live".

On May 19th, Vyshhorod district court in the Kiev region declared the provision of Semen Semenchenko as commander of a battalion of special purpose military units illegal, as he did not serve in the Armed forces and did not take the military oath.

Russian officials have repeatedly stated that Russia is not a party to the armed conflict in Donbass.

Rada Registers Bill on the Abolition of May 9th Public Holiday

Translated by Ollie Richardson for Fort Russ
30th May, 2016

The Verkhovna Rada registered a bill of the abolition of the May 9th public holiday.

Ukraine plans to cancel the celebrations on May 1st and Victory Day. This is stated in the bill registered in the Verkhovna Rada. Its authors are representatives of the factions of the Petro Poroshenko and Arseniy Yatsenyuk: Andrey Levus, Sergey Vysotsky, Nikolay Knyazhitsky, Vadim Denisenko, and others.

According to the document, the 1st, 2nd, and 9th May will no longer be holidays for Ukrainians. They are the remnants of Russian propaganda and the Communist regime," and therefore they should not be celebrated. While the increase in the number of working days, according to the authors of the bill, will lead to the improvement of the Ukrainian economy.

"The number of days off remains problematic for Ukraine, which is unacceptable in a difficult economic period and also coincides with the time of international armed conflict," stated the explanatory Memorandum.

Signatures for Poroshenko's Impeachment Collected in the Verkhovna Rada

Translated by Ollie Richardson for Fort Russ
12th April, 2016

Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada have began collecting signatures for the impeachment of President Petro Poroshenko. The creator of the document, according to RIA Novosti, is the leader of the parliamentary faction of the Radical party Oleg Lyashko and his party.

Previously, Lyashko announced his intention to initiate the procedure in connection with the information about Poroshenko's involvement  in offshore schemes.

In early April, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) published documents about offshore accounts resulting from leaks from the Panama legal company Mossack Fonseca. In the archive are the names of the 12 heads of state and hundreds of famous people, among which are former UEFA President Michel Platini, the head of Argentina Mauricio Macri, the Prime Minister of Iceland Sigmundur Gunnlaugsson, the family of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the star of "FC Barcelona" Lionel Messi, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, and others.

According to the publication, Poroshenko, in 2014, allegedly organized the activities of an offshore company in the Virgin Islands to delegate his business to a management he can trust.
