State Department: Pro-Government Ukrainian Armed Forces Involved in Kidnappings

The US State Department acknowledged on Wednesday that the Armed Forces supporting the government of Ukraine could be implicated in kidnappings in the country in 2015.

"The media and local human rights organizations have noted cases where pro-government and volunteer armed groups, on territory controlled by the government (Ukraine), have abducted citizens", stated the report of the American Foreign Ministry on the situation of human rights in the world in 2015.

As an example, "on June 17th, authorities arrested the commander and seven members of the "Tornado" battalion  on charges of kidnapping and illegal detention, violence, and torture of local citizens in government-controlled parts of Luhansk region". As emphasized, "the investigation into the case continues at the end of the year".
