Attorney General Lutsenko Is Hiding From the Mother of Oles Buzina

1st June, 2016

Mother of slain journalist and writer Oles Buzina, Valentina Pavlovna, has not been able to get in contact with the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuri Lutsenko for two weeks. On May 16th, she filed a petition for a meeting with Yuri Lutsenko, but as it turns out, her request was lost in the offices of the Prosecutor General, and the meeting was not appointed.

On Tuesday, the 77-year-old woman tried again to get an appointment with the Attorney General, but was unable to do so. After sitting in the waiting room for about 3 hours, she was told that the next visiting day of the head of the General Prosecutor of Ukraine was the 24th June. In this case, the mother of the murdered journalist was not given guarantees that Lutsenko would meet her.

According to Valentina Pavlovna, apparently, the criminal case on the murder of her son is going to be closed. On 16th-18th June, the maximum time provided by the Ukrainian legislation to investigate cases of this category expires. Until that time, the options are either to refer the case of the accused  Medvedko and Polischuk (both members of the nationalist organization C14) to the court or to close it. In this case, the court has long since released both into custody, and the investigation and the court are under very strong pressure from radical circles with the requirement to acquit both.

The mother of Oles wanted to meet with the Attorney General to ask him to take the investigation of the murder of Buzina under his special control.

Valentina Pavlovna believes that Ukrainian law enforcement agencies are putting the brakes on the proceedings of the investigation. Also, the mother of Buzina does not exclude that Yuriy Lutsenko's subordinates did not convey to him her request for a meeting.

“A year ago the country's top leadership pledged to solve the crime, taking it under his personal control, and declaring it a matter of honor. However, the investigation is still not completed, and the actions of law enforcement authorities cast doubt on the existence of law and justice in Ukraine,” said Valentina Pavlovna to "Страна. ua".

The suspects in the murder of Buzina have been released on bail.
