The Verkhovna Rada registered a bill of the abolition of the May 9th public holiday.

Ukraine plans to cancel the celebrations on May 1st and Victory Day. This is stated in the bill registered in the Verkhovna Rada. Its authors are representatives of the factions of the Petro Poroshenko and Arseniy Yatsenyuk: Andrey Levus, Sergey Vysotsky, Nikolay Knyazhitsky, Vadim Denisenko, and others.

According to the document, the 1st, 2nd, and 9th May will no longer be holidays for Ukrainians. They are the remnants of Russian propaganda and the Communist regime," and therefore they should not be celebrated. While the increase in the number of working days, according to the authors of the bill, will lead to the improvement of the Ukrainian economy.

"The number of days off remains problematic for Ukraine, which is unacceptable in a difficult economic period and also coincides with the time of international armed conflict," stated the explanatory Memorandum.
