Donbass Volunteer: We are at war with American Imperialism [+video]

Referendums on the status of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, parts of Ukraine that together make up the Donbass region, took place in May 2014 under the control of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. These referendums sought to legitimise their establishment as independent republics (Novorossia), in the aftermath of the 2014 coup d’etat in the Ukraine.

The results of the referendums voted in favour of secession but were not recognised by Western states. Since then, the war in the Donbass is estimated to have cost around 8,000 lives by Kiev's estimates. German itell suggests these figures are as high as 50,000 and are being shunned by the Ukrainian government.

In Western media, there is generally no mention of the Ukrainian army carrying out, what is essentially, a genocide against ethnically Russian civilians in the East of Ukraine. Headlines point to “separatists” and “rebels” in the East, which is outwardly loaded language that isn't applied elsewhere in the world. The people of Quebec, Canada for example, twice voted in an independence referendum but fell slightly short.

Zbegniew Brzezinski, a former National Security Advisor to President Carter and an influential thinker in US Foreign Policy today, identified the Ukraine as one of five geopolitical “pivot” points. In 1997, he wrote that “it is imperative that no Eurasian challenger emerges, capable of dominating Eurasia and thus also of challenging America.” With the eastward expansion of NATO during the last 20 years, we are now seeing the Atlanticist project reach its Ukrainian pivot point.

Russia is well aware of the funding sources of the war [US State department] in the Donbass and for what purposes it is being carried out.

It becomes immediately obvious that the loss of Crimea was a significant and unexpected blow to any geopolitical doctrine put forward in 1997, rendering the outcome of this conflict somewhat unpredictable.

Volunteers from Russia, as expressed in this interview, are not there to fight the Ukraine, but to fend off American imperialism. US incursion; the orchestrating of the coup d'etat and the training of Ukrainian troops by NATO is a direct threat to Russia’s security.
